Halloween
I always admire people who find the time to decorate their homes in a very spooky way and dress up as if they have been preparing for Halloween all year. There is a family I know that celebrates the birthday of one of their children on Halloween every year, so that every birthday party is a Halloween event par excellence. Cobwebs everywhere, fake bloodstains, impressive baking skills and lots of ingenious details around the house always create a fascinatingly dark yet playful atmosphere. I am always amazed by what they have managed to create…
Anyway, that’s not what you’re going to see here 😂 I have no idea how “normal” parents are supposed to find the time for all this, but there are some things that are easy, fun and manageable even for those of us who are short on time. So feel free to browse, get inspired and – most importantly – have fun with what you’re doing. This place is not about perfection or trying to live up to anyone’s expectations.

This year I’m super motivated to try out a few new things for Halloween. Yesterday, chance came to my aid. During an afternoon in the city, we passed an Action store and as I needed a few new things anyway (spoiler: I didn’t find the things I actually wanted this time), so we took a little detour into the shop. We were almost at the exit when I spotted the things on the left. An enormous, fluffy spider, artificial cobwebs, gooey handprints for the window, a string of pumpkin lights and a Halloween house to paint, with LED lights.
All in all, minus the 3 canvases I took for art projects, I didn’t pay more than 10€ for the things and I’m already really looking forward to decorating, even though it’s only the beginning of September. Unfortunately, our flat is on the outskirts of the village, which is why relatively few children come round here and I don’t think most adults appreciate Halloween decorations, especially if they don’t have children (any more) of the appropriate age.Â
That said, I will probably find a suitable place for it inside the flat. I wonder what the cats will think of the oversized spider? I’ll keep you posted.
By the way, what do you think of the socks I bought last year? 😆 I think I love them more than my son does!
Spooky Halloween Bolognese with eyeballs
Want to spice up your Halloween dinner a little, but without too much effort? How about a spooky Halloween Bolognese? It’s definitely a real eye-catcher and a lot of fun – at least for the somewhat older children. For your spooky Halloween Bolognese, simply:
- Prepare your regular Bolognese Sauce plus some additional meatballs
- Use sugar eyes, olives or anything similar to decorate the “eyes” – carrots actually work pretty well
- Enjoy!
